HPS provides social and recreational opportunities not only for our clients, but in some instances also for clients from other agencies and for mental health consumers from the community at large.
In addition to the HPS social recreational activities listed below, clients are encouraged and assisted in utilizing a wide range of other community facilities and programs to meet their social and recreational interests.
Bob's Coffee Club is a popular client-run group where individuals enjoy each other's company as they have refreshments in an informal atmosphere.
The Buddy Line provides an opportunity for existing HPS clients to welcome and assist in the orientation of new admissions to the program. This is accomplished by accompanying the new individual to evening programs, meeting them over coffee for support during the day or evening, and providing assistance in such things as learning bus routes. The HPS "buddies" are a dedicated and valued group.
The Cottage Studio is a community-based consumer art program supported by HPS Family Association and the Ontario Trillium Foundation which promotes mental health through creative art. Located beside St. Paul's Presbyterian Church (70 James St. South) in the newly renovated "Cottage" members are offered complimentary space, art supplies and art lessons, in a relaxed social environment. Membership is free and is open to any consumer of mental health interested in art. To learn more about the Cottage Studio visit www.cottagestudio.ca . Myler Hall provides clients with the opportunity to develop socially with other HPS clients taking turns leading the evening. Activities may involve food preparation, games or educational activities. These nights are always lively and enjoyable.

Each year HPS organizes a Talent Show in which clients and staff can participate to show off their unique talents as well clients can help out with "behind the scene" activities such as set design, lighting and stage help. Practices are held beginning in June and for those who participate it provides a social outlet.
Sports teams are an important part of the HPS recreational program. Participation in the HPS baseball and volleyball teams provides both a social and recreational opportunity for clients.
The Walking Group combines both socialization and exercise while heading out for extensive walks throughout Hamilton.
